Then I noticed that parents wanted to learn the concepts to help their kids, but did not have time to study a program. So I animated the whole program into a feature cartoon The History of English According to Bob. Now parents and kids could learn the 7 syllables and 7 rules just by watching the DVD. I knew this was a great success when a mother said to me, “Now when my daughter asks me why a word is spelled ‘that way’ I can answer her!”
Teachers wanted to learn this program quickly (so did parents and last minute substitute teachers.) That is why the Instructor’s manual was designed so anyone could read the directions and in 5 minutes be ready to teach a lesson.
The CD was designed for students who were often shy about not knowing how to read. They could go to the computer and practice independently, without having to ask for help while they studied the concepts and read new words.
As students learned each concept they put up the posters so they could look up and get a quick reminder of the whole concept they had learned.
Living and teaching in Los Angeles, I was fully immersed in our multilingual culture. Many of my friends asked me to help them understand the spelling of English. While they were fluent in English they were continually troubled by the spelling. To meet this need I rebuilt the entire program in a bilingual form. Today it exists in English and Spanish. Soon it will be available in Hindi, Farsi and Hebrew for English language learners.
Finally there was the ultimate tool to build, The Word Tag Program. Many people had learned basic English but needed to continue learning words as they read. In the Word Tag Library with the click of a button one can immediately get the pronunciation, definition, translation, and syllabication of a word.
Quick, effective mastery of English – that is our goal. Bringing that possibility to you is what Fat Rat Education was created for.
